Meryl Streep & Her Doppelganger Daughter Rock Out In Ricki & The Flash

Get ready for Meryl Streep as you've never seen her before. The iconic actress dons heavy eyeliner and Coachella braids to play an aging rocker in Ricki and the Flash. Streep stars as the titular Ricki Rendazzo. She's the front woman of a band who readily abandoned her husband and children to pursue a love of guitar, life on the road, and the type of adulation one gets from millions of anonymous audience members whose love you can feel safely from afar for only a few euphoric hours at a time. Ricki clearly has some issues with familial intimacy and her rocker persona versus her real self.  This, of course, means that it's time for her to be called back home to deal with said issues. Her daughter, who is played by Streep's real-life daughter and doppelgänger, Mamie Gummer, is unceremoniously dumped and spiraling out of control. Ricki returns to be with her and the rest of the family — and is reminded over and over that she abandoned them and has been replaced by her husband's new wife (the always wonderful Broadway icon, Audra McDonald). The road to redemption is bumpy, but judging by the big family performance at the end of the trailer, things probably work out in the end. And, hey, there's Rick Springfield playing Ricki's bandmate and part-time lover. Guess he finally got over Jessie's girl.
