John Nash, Nobel Prize-winning mathematician and the subject
of the 2001 Oscar-winning film A Beautiful Mind ,died at the age of 86 in a
taxi crash Saturday, reports The Huffington Post.
According to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Gregory Williams, John and his wife of nearly 60 years, Alicia,
were ejected from the cab on the New Jersey Turnpike after the car lost control
and crashed into a guard rail.
"It doesn't appear that they
were wearing seatbelts," he told NJ.com.
The taxi driver, however, was flown to a hospital in New
Jersey with “non-life-threatening injuries.”
Russell Crowe, who played John in the Academy
Award-winning film about his game theory work and struggle with mental illness, tweeted his condolences Sunday morning: "Stunned...my heart goes out to
John & Alicia & family.
An amazing partnership. Beautiful
minds, beautiful hearts."
