Laying on a couch for 10 days is what we did during spring break of sophomore year when everyone else went on vacation and we got our wisdom teeth out. It’s not something you’d imagine Kate Moss doing for work. But, in this video, the British supermodel opens up about some of the less-than-glamourous, less-than-mobile #TBT moments of her illustrious career: capturing those iconic Calvin Klein Obsession ads.
In a nearly 10-minute clip with Nick Knight's SHOWreel, Moss goes back in time to paint us a picture of what it was like creating the original, conversation-starting campaign — i.e. not the Kendall Jenner version. “I laid like that for 10 days,” says the Croydon native in sharing how the au naturel Obsession for Men campaign came to be. "We got it," she says of the final image, shot by her boyfriend at the time, Mario Sorrenti. "It was probably in the first roll."
The 41-year-old suggests that the Obsession shot was like an homage to Sorrenti's own obsession: photographing her. "I'd wake up in the morning and he'd be taking pictures of me, and I'd be like 'fuck off!'" The couple would break up after the 10-day couch fest in what Moss describes as a "deserted shack on the beach," but her don't-give-a-damn attitude had been captured and immortalized. Watch below for more of this rare and candid Moss interview, including what it was like kicking off a career in New York and some oh-so-embarrassing stretch-limo stories.
