The summer bug hit us hard over Memorial Day — and now, it's hard to want to slip on any item of clothing that fully covers our limbs. However, Mother Nature isn't quite with it yet. A bright, clear day can turn into an unusually chilly night — one that makes you check the calendar to make sure we are, indeed, almost in June. While this finicky weather wreaks havoc on our wardrobe choices, Nicole Richie has devised a pretty effective way to counteract unpredictable temperatures: You have to layer.
Richie was spotted in L.A. mixing staples from opposite seasons. She paired a summery, scallop-hem dress with a more winter-appropriate, black turtleneck. This form of late-spring layering is a very chic solution to our tricky-weather-dressing woes. Nicole's accessories did not disappoint: Colorblocked Saint Laurent oxfords, House of Harlow sunglasses, and a Balenciaga tote rounded out the very luxe look, while an asymmetric, cropped blazer lent a put-together feel to the entire ensemble.
The takeaway: Even the unwelcome, pre-summer chill can look pretty good. Just re-create Richie's look — like we did below — and the under-60ºF forecast won't feel so terrible.
