Disney just keeps the exciting news coming. On Wednesday, the studio announced that one of it's most popular films is being made into a television series. Now, over 20 years later, one of it's most acclaimed comedies is back in action. Dust off those habits and warm up your voices, because Sister Act is getting another installment, The Hollywood Reporter reveals. The 1992 classic starring Whoopi Goldberg was the start of a very successful franchise, with the first film alone bringing in $232 million worldwide. A 1993 sequel (Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit) was followed years later by a Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical in 2011. We've seen both movies more times than we can count, so today's news is a real thrill — particularly considering the talent behind the project. Writing team Kristen "Kiwi" Smith and Karen McCullah (Legally Blonde, The House Bunny and She's the Man) will pen the remake, with Allison Shearmur, one of the producers behind the recent live-action Cinderella, on board to produce. No news yet as to whether Goldberg will be involved with the third film. Plot details also have yet to surface, but we're holding out faith that the latest addition to the story will exceed our expectations. All it takes is one high note, after all. When Jesus...*insert the highest note you've ever heard in your life here*. Oh, happy day! (The Hollywood Reporter)
