What a long, strange trip it's been, Chelsea Handler. The cutting edge comedian, who left her popular late night show on E! last year citing celebrity burnout — "To be quite honest, I don't really care about Justin Bieber and I don't want to talk about him anymore." — is now hard at work filming four "docu-comedy" specials for Netflix. And for one of them, she's going to trip on hallucinogenic drugs.
On an episode titled Chelsea Does Ayahuasca, Handler will fly to Peru and drink Ayahuasca, a traditional psychoactive drink made from a South American vine, Vulture reports. But don't worry: the comedian will take her metaphorical trip alongside a shaman and with medical supervision. And while she's not planning to take any other drugs on camera, the bold blonde said at the Forbes Women’s Summit on Wednesday that she does intend to try others, like a sleeping pill, Xanax, or shrooms, "just to show what happens in your brain when you’re doing these things and how irresponsible some are, and how some are just, you know, real fun."
“I looked at my life and thought, I’m bored,” Handler told Forbes of the talk show she left behind. "I could have gotten paid $10 million a year for the next five years, but I want to do a show that is as smart as me, I want to take chances and set an example." (Cue the psychedelics?)
On other episodes of the "docu-special," Handler and team will bring Chelsea Does Racism, Chelsea Does Silicon Valley and Chelsea Does Marriage to Netflix in 2016. We can't wait.
