Facebook Knows You Well Enough To Suggest Status Updates

Facebook always manages to cross the line into creepy, whether it's tracking your location or inquiring into your current relationship status. Now, the social network has started suggesting stuff for you to post about. Hold your horses, Facebook; we're not your personal billboard. Some users have reported seeing recommended hashtags cropping up beneath their status box, like #NationalPeanutButterCookieDay or #InternationalYoungEaglesDay (what does that even mean?). According to the Social Times, Facebook explains it with this pop-up message: "Want to post to your fans, but run out of ideas? Here are some suggested topics." The hashtags are supposedly determined by your previous activity, but they look more like what's currently trending on Facebook. It's unclear at this time if this is something Facebook is going to roll out widely, or if it's just a feature the company is beta testing. We're hoping for the latter. We love peanut butter cookies as much as the next person, but we're not going to start chatting about them on Facebook just because the social network told us to. That said, maybe the hashtag suggestions will bring lasting fame to the International Young Eagles of the world.
