Wait… Amy Schumer was asked to be the host of The Daily Show?! And she said NO?!
Yes, you read that correctly, and are probably just as shocked and disappointed as we are. However, the hot comedian-of-the-moment actually had a really good reason for turning down the hosting gig.
"I was so honored to be asked and considered," Schumer recently told The Daily Beast in an interview when probed for info on whether she had been offered Jon Stewart's job. "With Comedy Central, I project so much 'You're my parents!’ on the network and the people that run it, so them saying, 'We believe in you and trust that you can do this,’ I thought, ‘Oh my god, thank you.'"
Schumer added, "And then I thought, 'Well, I could give everyone I love a job and we could all be together for five years.' But picturing being in a building and knowing what I was going to do for five years—I love not knowing. And I’ve never done anything safe or to make money for that reason. So, you know, I said, 'I can't start now.'"
According to a profile in The New York Times, the gig was also offered to Amy Poehler (who turned it down) and Chris Rock (who could only commit to a year). The job eventually went to up-and-comer Trevor Noah, who is set to take a seat behind the desk in August after Stewart's final show.
While we are excited to see how Trevor fares... we can't help to think what could have been. All Schumer, all the time. Sigh.
