Over the past several seasons, Marc Jacobs has turned the process of picking campaign stars into an art form. Whether it's Miley Cyrus, Kendall Jenner, or #Instastars on the internet, the designer has proved that the perfect face for each collection is as important as the clothes. But, we've got to hand it to him, even he has outdone himself with his fall 2015 muses. The label has already debuted campaign images starring Willow Smith and Cher, and this weekend it rolled out one more major bet: Betty Lowe.
Wearing a brown turtleneck, neat plaits, and a python-printed maxi-skirt twice her height, the nine-year-old playfully holds court on a tall stool. Jacobs posted the image on Instagram last Friday: “Allow me to introduce Betty Lowe @ocean_bubble photographed by David Sims. In 2009 her sister Daisy Lowe did the MbyMJ campaign..I love these girls, their mom Pearl, and this family!"
This isn’t the first time Betty’s been in front of the camera. In 2010, a four-year-old Betty modeled for children's label Alex and Alexa along with her older brothers, Alfie and Frankie. Her mother, Pearl Lowe, had told Vogue she wasn’t sure if they'd like the shoot: “They’re indie kids at heart, and we weren’t sure whether they’d be a bit grumpy and not enjoy it. You never really know whether it’s the right thing to do, but, they LOVED it — so much so that they’re asking, ‘When is the next one?’!” Five years later, here it is.
For Betty, according to her Instagram, life after a major fashion campaign hasn't changed much. She’s still spending her time taking selfies in the car, putting her name on things, and challenging other nine-year-olds in tug-of-war competitions (with the appropriate string of emojis given the results). Here's wishing her many more years of playtime, even if her fantasy dress-up closet might be filled with the latest Marc Jacobs.
