Why I Still Love Back To The Future

When I was growing up, I pretty much did whatever my older brother Andrew did. That included wearing his sneakers (kind of gross), trading Pogs (very cool!), and watching whatever movies he watched. You better believe that included Back to the Future, which hit the big screen 30 years ago today. As my need for older-brother street cred faded, I left his oversized kicks and bottle cap games behind. But I'd fallen in love with the tale of Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) all on my own. I thought the 1985 movie was so exciting, but not necessarily because I'm obsessed with time travel or science fiction. When I was a kid, I always used to think about what my life would look like in 20 or 30 years. Back to the Future fed that curiosity. But, there are a few special reasons it's remained one of my favorites over the years. Nostalgia For The '50s
I've definitely never lived in the '50s. However, I've always been really close with my grandparents, who love telling me, even to this day, about what life was like when they were teenagers: The dresses, the music, the simpler way of life. Back to the Future was the first movie that really brought their stories to life. (Thanks to my brother's eclectic taste, we got hooked on this movie before Grease, which came out five years earlier.) The Fashion
Remember, I was a small, impressionable child who wore her brother's Starter jacket every day. I thought Marty McFly's wardrobe was it. Einstein (The Dog)
Show me a dog more fluffy and loyal and willing to do science experiments than Einstein. You cannot. The Swearing
Doc taught my first swear word. "If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit." The Catchphrases
Favorites include, "Where we’re going, we don’t need roads," and shouting "McFly!" at people who are being a bit slow on the uptake.
