If you're stuck at home dreaming of the ocean this holiday weekend, we have a true treat for you: Travel to Australia vicariously and see what the Great Barrier Reef looks like from a sea turtle's point of view, thanks to this amazing new GoPro video captured by the World Wildlife Fund and reported by CBS News.
As part of a campaign to raise awareness for the iconic Australian reef's declining condition after the UNESCO World Heritage Committee declined to put the Great Barrier Reef on its official "in danger" list, WWF researchers secured a GoPro camera to the shell of one of the organization's tagged turtles and followed it as it swam through one of the largest systems of coral reefs on the planet.
The camera, attached via a suction cup, held on for about 15 minutes before slowly sliding off the turtle's shell to the reef floor, where it was later retrieved by a diver.
But those 15 minutes? Absolutely amazing.
