The United States women kicked the soccer ball right through the glass ceiling last night, smashing Japan 5-2 to become the World Cup champions. In case you missed it, here are the top three moments you absolutely must see.
The victory was the third for the U.S. women, who lost to Japan in the 2011 World Cup finals. The U.S. now holds the most Women's World Cup wins in history.
Superstar midfielder Carli Lloyd showed off her hat trick, including one unforgettable goal from midfield. Yes, that's 50 yards away.
The other two goals came from Lauren Holiday and Tobin Heath. The five total goals are another broken record the women can boast — no team has ever scored more in a women's World Cup Final.
Abby Wambach, the all-time leading scorer in international competition (with 183 goals), then took the team's emotional victory to the next level. Wambach had never been on a World Cup-winning team before, so after the game she ran up to the stands to embrace her wife, former pro soccer player Sarah Huffman. It was an incredible moment and proves that #LoveWins when women do, too.
