Searching YouTube for the best Kylie Jenner lip-contouring tutorial may soon be a thing of the past. The youngest member of the notorious reality TV family just announced on Instagram that she will be launching her own beauty blog, KylieJenner.com. Other than saying she can't wait to release all her "beauty secrets," she gave no actual details on when this will happen or what content we'll find. Naturally, we have some feelings.
Remember when it seemed that every celebrity who fancied themselves a stylish person, good hostess, or decent cook thought it would be a good idea to start a lifestyle brand? We got Goop from Gwyneth Paltrow, Preserve from Blake Lively, and The Honest Company from Jessica Alba. Perhaps the next wave of celebrities itching to give us advice will have a new type of platform: the beauty blog. Even Kylie's sister Kim Kardashian has teased a forthcoming beauty site.
Here's the issue, guys: Just because a celebrity looks good doesn't mean they're necessarily qualified to dole out beauty advice. Think about all those starlets with A-plus style who have stylists doing the work for them. Kylie is extremely vocal about how much she relies on her glam squad; she even credits her look in the Instagram snap announcing her blog to her longtime makeup artist Ariel Tejada.
A team of makeup artists or hairstylists who are attached to a certain celebrity are perfect contenders for creating a blog — just look at The Beauty Department, run by Lauren Conrad's expert team. But a blog by just Kylie has us wondering if the beauty secrets we're about to be inundated with will actually be penned by the 17-year-old. Or will her glam squad be ghostwriting for her? (Likely.)
That being said, we're sure Kylie has learned a lot from the people who doll her up — she is around them all the time, after all. And Kim has mentioned that Kylie is really, really good at doing her own makeup. So perhaps she does have some decent advice to share. As long as it saves us from another #KylieJennerChallenge debacle, we'll be satisfied. Consider us hesitantly optimistic.
