Hunger Games fans, Josh Hutcherson may have just inadvertently given you an early birthday present. During an appearance on Conan last night alongside fellow franchise stars Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth, the actor seemed to accidentally admit to host Conan O’Brien that Mockingjay — Part 2, which hits theaters this November, won't be the last we see of the Hunger Games crew on the big screen.
"There's got to be some way we can keep this going, a sequel, a prequel... Where are you on that?" O'Brien said to Lawrence before Hutcherson jumped in, blurting out, "There is." He immediately went silent with a startled, "Oh," while a noticeably shocked Lawrence gave him some not-so-subtle side-eye. (Oh, Peeta, Lionsgate is gonna be mad at you.)
"I’m sorry, I'm sorry. No, I can’t say that. Sorry. We’ll see what happens," Hutcherson quickly backtracked. "We’ll see what happens." But O’Brien, for his part, was not buying it, declaring to the roaring audience that this was the "worst lying [he's] ever seen." The always good-natured J Lawr did what she could to smooth over the situation, saying that while she "would love" to do more, they were all "already too old" to possibly film more.
We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for more from Katniss and the Districts — we could use some more women-fronted blockbusters. And we do love the Hunger Games crew.
