This Teen Completed Her “Bucket List” On The Day She Died

As a family mourns a Connecticut teenager who died in a car accident earlier this month, it can take heart that her final act crossed off the last item on a bucket list — to save another person's life.

Rebecca Townsend was struck and killed by a passing car as she crossed the road on July 2, but she managed to push her friend, Ben Arne, out of the way just in time, leaving him injured but alive. Rebecca had also accomplished her first two bucket list goals — take a trip to Spain, and get kissed in the rain. She had recently graduated from high school and was planning on attending the University of Notre Dame in the fall.

Rebecca's sisters found the bucket list she had written three years earlier, as part of a class assignment, in her room after her death, and were able to share the story of her selfless act, as well as what it would have meant to the teen, as part of a post they published on a Facebook memorial page titled Remembering Rebecca.

In under two weeks, the post has received more than 3,000 likes and 400 comments from those who knew and loved Rebecca, as well as from strangers who wanted to praise her for her bravery and offer condolences to her family. People have also started posting photos of good deeds they've completed in Rebecca's memory, using the hashtag #RememberingRebecca. Her sister Victoria said of finding the list and realizing it had been completed, "It was a little sign that she was OK."
