The 2015 Emmy nominations are in, and while some stars — like Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany — are finally getting their due, as always, a number of shows and actors were surprisingly overlooked.
It's difficult to ignore that, for yet another year, the awards are looking a little whitewashed. Television is becoming more diverse, but the Emmys certainly are not. One snubbed series that deserved a little more awards love? Empire. While series creator Lee Daniels politely told the haters to shut up, he also owned up to his true feelings on Instagram.
"Fuck these motherfuckers," Lee said in a short video he posted of himself alongside Empire's Jussie Smollet. Lee is laughing, but there's definitely some tension in this post, which he captioned with the hashtags #canfinallypostthis #timetoberealagain #emmyniceguyoverwith.
That doesn't mean Daniels is holding a grudge against the other nominees — far from it. In addition to his hater-silencing post, the writer-producer shared another video congratulating casting director Billy Hopkins, who made the cut for Bessie. But the Precious director clearly has a bone to pick with the Emmy powers-that-be — and Empire fans will definitely back him up.
