DiCaprio’s New Movie Seems To Be Devoid Of Women

The Revenant won't hit theaters until this Christmas, but it's already generating some awards buzz — specifically for the filming technique, which relies entirely on natural light. A collaboration between director Alejandro González Iñárritu and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki — the Oscar-winning duo behind Birdman — the film chronicles the story of real-life explorer and fur trapper Hugh Glass, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. The plot goes like this: After being betrayed by his confidant, Glass is attacked by a bear and left in the woods to die. He survives, but must battle his way back through the deadly winter — and, from the looks of the newly released trailer, all the odds are stacked against him. The Revenant certainly looks like an intense film, but we couldn't help but notice something missing from the trailer: a single female character. A quick glance at the movie's IMDB page confirms that, at least for the moment, there aren't any women associated with this film in front of the camera. Wait a minute, now. Wasn't this year that Hollywood pledged to create more opportunities for women? We're going to be sorely disappointed if not a single actress made her way into this cast. Damsels in distress don't count.
