This Therapist Is Making The “Divorce Dress” A Thing

Acquiring that perfect wedding dress (whether it's a custom Vera Wang gown or a low-key, indie-brand find) has long been considered one of life's ultimate sartorial milestones. These days, though, with approximately one-third of marriages ending in divorce, it's clear that not every wedding leads to a happily ever after. But, thanks to the new "Divorce Dress," there's a fashion moment for breakups, too.
London-based astrologer, therapist, and designer Nicolas Aujula decided to create the Divorce Dress after he noticed an increase in number of clients struggling to move on after heartbreak. He describes his gown as "a stunning dress created to celebrate your divorce, in a beautiful emerald shade chosen for its significance of healing the heart and creating emotion balance." Available in both a minidress and a floor-skimming length, the frock is emerald-hued — a color with restorative, mood-boosting properties, according to Aujula's website — and made from Italian silk. It features a corset bodice and embroidered tulle. While this isn't the first instance of a divorce dress, it's likely the most expensive. The short version retails for $4,700, and the long gown is priced at $5,495 (both come with a custom fitting). But, regardless of whether you prefer to shell out for Aujula's formal wear or just go on a spontaneous, post-breakup shopping spree, the moral of the story remains the same: Looking good is always the best revenge.
