Laverne Cox Went To A Screening Of I Am Cait With Caitlyn Jenner

Two of the biggest names in trans activism got some long anticipated face time. On Instagram, Laverne Cox posted a photo of herself with Caitlyn Jenner at a screening of Jenner's new docuseries I Am Cait. Cox wrote in a caption: "@caitlynjenner and I finally met in person at a special private advance screening of #IAmCait. #TransIsBeautiful#girlslikeus #caitlynjenner." The series starring Jenner, is set to premiere July 26 on E!.
Cox also posted another photo in which she posed with Jenner and other notable trans women including actresses Candis Cayne and Trace Lysette. "Fun with #girlslikeus tonight at the screening of #IAmCait," Cox captioned the photo. Cox weighed in on Jenner's Vanity Fair cover following its debut. "I am so moved by all the love and support Caitlyn is receiving," Cox wrote on Tumblr. "It feels like a new day, indeed, when a trans person can present her authentic self to the world for the first time and be celebrated for it so universally." But Cox also took the time to reflect more broadly on what the moment meant as it related to the trans community at large. "Most trans folks don’t have the privileges Caitlyn and I have now have," she wrote. "It is those trans folks we must continue to lift up, get them access to healthcare, jobs, housing, safe streets, safe schools and homes for our young people. We must lift up the stories of those most at risk, statistically trans people of color who are poor and working class." Recently asked about Jenner's fashion on Watch What Happens Live, Cox said: "Go Caitlyn."
