Now this is what we call a reunion.
Sixteen cast members of the hit HBO drama The Wire went back to their stomping grounds in Baltimore for "Wired Up! A Celebration of the Spirit + Power of the People of Baltimore," an Artscape event that took place over the weekend.
Residents of the city wrote monologues that were brought to life by The Wire actors and actresses. Sonja Sohn (Kima), Michael K. Williams (Omar), Andre Royo (Bubbles), Felicia Pearson (Snoop) and more took the stage to share the touching stories. Sohn was one of the main organizers for the event.
"We lived here while shooting and became a part of these communities," Sohn told the Baltimore Sun. "There's a real core group of us who feel parts of Baltimore are woven in to who we are as a result of the time we spent here."
The monologues put a spotlight on the neighborhood of Penn North, where Freddie Gray lived before his tragic death in police custody back in April. The riots that followed made a huge impact on the city.
It's great to see these stars getting involved. Keep up the great work, guys.
