Evan Rachel Wood is in a "dream" in the new teaser for HBO's upcoming series, Westworld. The unsettling trailer doesn't actually show Wood speaking. Instead, she sits doll-like and disheveled, while we hear a voiceover of her character, Dolores, being interrogated. To wake up from her "dream," a mysterious man tells her, she must "answer my question correctly: Have you ever questioned the nature of your reality?"
Though the teaser for the show intersperses the images of Wood with scenes of familiar gunslinger fare, this is definitely not your typical western. The show, which comes from Jonathan Nolan (a.k.a. Christopher's brother), is described by HBO as a "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin."
The series takes its cues from the 1973 movie Westworld about a resort that sends its guests back in time thanks to extremely lifelike robots. The movie was written and directed by Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton.
While Wood has acted in smaller films more recently, her last major roles came in 2011 with the film The Ides of March and the miniseries Mildred Pierce. But Wood is just one member of a stacked cast that also includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, James Marsden, and Thandie Newton. You have to be patient though: The show doesn't premiere until 2016.
