Jared Fogle’s Childhood Obesity Charity Was A Sham, Report Says

More news about Subway's former spokesman that may make you cringe: Not only is Jared Fogle waiting to be sentenced on charges of child pornography and having sex with minors, the 38-year-old may also be a greedy scammer. According to the latest news accounts, Fogle's charity was essentially a money-making sham. USA Today reports that the Jared Foundation, which Fogle founded to fight childhood obesity, has done absolutely nothing from 2009 to 2013. Despite the public plan to give $20,000 grants to 50 schools in 2008, the foundation has spent only $73,000 a year on average from 2009 to 2013. The clincher? Of the $73,000, 60 percent went to the executive director's salary — the position that Russell Taylor (who was arrested for producing child pornography in May) previously held. USA Today goes on to report that 26 percent of that money is unaccounted for; in the meantime, the foundation hasn't paid the state of Indiana the yearly $5 registration fee since 2008, and hasn't been recognized by the Indiana Secretary of State since 2012. It is still, however, recognized by the IRS. "As with a lot of celebrities, the charity appears to be more about image enhancement than charitable deeds," Daniel Borochoff, president of CharityWatch, told USA Today.
