Sarah Palin thinks she knows how we can make America even greater. It starts with us all speaking the same language, she says, sounding a whole lot like Donald Trump.
In an interview with CNN's State of the Union, former Alaska Governor Palin praised presidential hopeful Jeb Bush for being fluent in Spanish and being able to connect with the United States' "large and wonderful" Hispanic population that is "helping to build America," but then said it would be even better if everyone in the country would just "speak American."
"I think we can send a message and say, 'You want to be in America? A: You'd better be here legally or you're out of here. B: When you're here, let's speak American,'" she said. "Let's speak English, and that's a kind of a unifying aspect of the nation is the language that is understood by all."
Palin's comments don't necessarily make America sound very welcoming to immigrants. It's clear she disagrees with South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who said last week that the Republican Party, of which she is also a member, "often appears cold and unwelcoming to minorities."
"I can't think of any Republican that I know who would have that in their heart," Palin told CNN. "[The Republican Party] is the party that would wish to bring people in together, standing together, putting America first, even in terms of the culture, accepting people's differences and the diverse views and everything else, because we have common sense driving our party."
Especially if you speak good ol' American.
