Secret Agent Sam Smith has a nice ring to it. But alas, the singer won't be starring in the new James Bond movie, Spectre, due in theaters Novembers 6, 2015.
He will, however, make an appearance in the film: on its soundtrack. The English crooner co-wrote "Writing's On The Wall" with fellow Grammy Award winner Jimmy Napes; the song marks the first time since 1965 that a British male solo artist is singing the title track on a James Bond movie.
Smith has big shoes to fill. The last theme song from the iconic spy series took home the Academy Award for Best Original Song. "Skyfall" — performed by Adele — also received the Critic's Choice Award for Best Song, as well as the Brit Award for Best Single of the Year. We'll see how the "Lay Me Down" singer's track stands up.
We're still waiting to hear if one other notable English singer is going to make her way into the movie's musical oeuvre. Ellie Goulding was rumored to have already recorded a song for the film. No definitive word on that yet, but we'll be keeping our eyes (and ears) peeled.
