Why Everyone At The Emmys Wore A Green Ribbon

You might have noticed quite a few green ribbons pinned to the lapels and dresses of Emmy attendees this evening. Turns out, there's a good reason why stars like Gaby Hoffmann and Jeffrey Tambor dared to add a potentially clashing color into their ensembles: They're standing up on behalf of the environment. The Natural Resources Defense Council announced via its Tumblr page that people are wearing the ribbons to highlight the importance of action against global warming. "Climate change is the most critical humanitarian crisis of our time," the N.R.D.C. shared. "In December, hundreds of world leaders will gather in Paris with an urgent mission: working together to finalize a new global agreement for combating climate change." Looks like they've got a fair number of Hollywood's finest on team green. Last year, celebs sported the same hue of ribbon to raise awareness and show support in the wake of Robin William's suicide. “Everyone is wearing the green ribbons for depression. I dealt with it firsthand," Allison Janney said at the time. "I lost someone dear to me," she commented before Billy Crystal made his tribute speech to the beloved comedian, adding that she was looking forward to what Crystal would say. "I know there’s not going to be a dry eye in the house," Janney added. She was absolutely right about that one.
