True love does exist! Proof: This sweet video of a 92-year-old singing to his wife on her deathbed. Their song? "You'll Never Know," originally recorded by Rosemary Clooney and Harry James.
This video of a couple named Howard and Laura was uploaded first to Facebook and then to YouTube, and was filmed by their granddaughter Erin Solari, who wanted to capture their tender final moments together. According to the YouTube description, Solari's grandparents were married 73 years.
"I was lucky enough to capture this precious, heart-melting moment between the two of them. Howard (Grandpa) is singing to her their love song, the song that comforted her when he went away to fight in World War II. At family gatherings, it was not uncommon for the two of them to sing this song together, each taking a verse and serenading the other," Solari wrote.
"In fact, after 50 years of marriage, they renewed their vows and performed this song as a duet for the entire family at the reception," she continues. "Sadly, Grandma is now too weak to sing, but that doesn't stop her from saying the words to him (see at 1:00)."
According to Solari, Laura, who is currently undergoing hospice care, has macular degeneration and can see only light and shadows. Her grandfather has lost most of his hearing — but his singing is still on point. "I always was your sweetheart," Howard says at the beginning of the clip. "He likes me!" exclaims Laura mid-song. Happy Monday, y'all.
