As Janet Jackson gets ready to drop her first album in seven years next Friday, October 2, the iconic singer is treating us to a new single tailor-made to fill a dance floor (or start a much-needed at-home dance party, your call) — and it features the inimitable Missy Elliott.
"Burnitup!," which Jackson has been previewing for fans during stops on her Unbreakable World Tour, made its radio debut on BBC Radio 1 last night and was shared on Twitter by the superstar herself this morning. Filled with frenetic, fast-paced beats and layered samples, the song gathers around a powerhouse verse from the primed-for-a-comeback Elliott. Jackson, well, she'll tell you what she wants: "Give me that fire, Im'a show you how to burn it up."
This isn't the first time Jackson and Elliott have worked together: The two collaborated alongside Carly Simon back in 2001 on "Son of a Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You)," an updated homage to the folk singer's iconic 1972 song, "You're So Vain," and they have no shortage of nice things to say about each other.
Elliott, in fact, is still rather charmingly starstruck by Jackson at times, admitting in a statement to the press that, "Although we are great friends and have been for so long, I am still her biggest fan. Sometimes, I still have to pinch myself when I call her and she picks up the phone or texts me because she is still Janet Jackson!" (That seems like a totally normal response to us, Missy.)
