Turns out, Olivia Pope was just as excited as the rest of the world to catch a glimpse of that other Pope. Kerry Washington sat down with Stephen Colbert on his Late Show and the topic of Pope Francis quickly came up. While Colbert says she's the only Pope more famous, the Scandal star wholeheartedly disagreed. She admitted that while she was on the red carpet for her Purple Purse party, which was celebrating her creation of a purse that will help raise money for victims of domestic violence and financial abuse, when the Pope's Fiat drove by — and she actually ran off the carpet to go see him. "I got to see him waving from his Fiat," she said. "It was very exciting. Everybody was saying, 'Pope is seeing Pope!'" Washington also told Colbert that sometimes, when she sees what's going on in Washington, she thinks they could use a fixer like Olivia. And in fact, she can tell when the real-life Olivia Pope, Judy Smith, who used to work in the first Bush White House "but did not have sex with that president, like I do on my show,” has actually worked her magic. “I can tell the moment her fingerprint is on it and the conversation changes — and the spin changes,” Washington said. While on the show, Washington also talked about the upcoming HBO movie, Confirmation, where she'll play Anita Hill. Though unfortunately, she didn't share any spoilers. However, she did say that the story is much more complicated than anyone thought — and we all need to watch it.
