Bill Nye Perfectly Explains Why Men Should Stop Telling Women What To Do With Their Bodies

Bill Nye has come up with the best way to help men understand why women should be in control of their own reproductive rights: Science! In a new YouTube video courtesy of The Big Think, the Science Guy becomes an ally for anyone with a vagina, explaining that instead of politicians passing laws based on their "interpretation of a book written 5,000 years ago" they should be trying to "respect the facts" — a few of which Nye is more than happy to share with the world. "If you're going to say when an egg is fertilized, it therefore has the same rights as an individual, then whom are you going to sue?" Nye says in the video. "Whom are you going to imprison? Every woman who has had a fertilized egg pass through her? Every guy whose sperm has fertilized an egg and it didn't become a human?" He goes on to say: "Recommending or insisting on abstinence has been completely ineffective. Closing abortion clinics, not giving women access to birth control has not been an effective way to lead to healthier societies." Perhaps sending a jab Congress' way as they try to introduce more restrictions on abortion and remove funding from Planned Parenthood. As Mic points out, Nye is backed up by scientific studies, particularly one in 2007, which found that abstinence-only education has no impact on preventing teens from having sex. In 2011, another found that states with no-sex-until-marriage programs have "significantly higher teen pregnancy rates than ones with comprehensive curriculum." It's also been found that restricting abortion and access to birth control has a negative impact on women's health overall, specifically increasing unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. The facts are certainly hard to ignore, though that hasn't stopped many from doing so. But as Nye explains, "We have so many more problems. To squander resources on this argument based on bad science on just lack of understanding is very frustrating." But Nye sums it best: "When it comes to women's rights with respect to their reproduction, I think you should leave it to women." Drop the mic, Nye's out.
