#OscarsSoWhite, meet #MovementMondays.
Gina Rodriguez kickstarted an inspiring campaign on Instagram, and she wants everyone to be a part of it, starting with her fans. The Latina actress aims to start highlighting Latino actors and actresses every Monday to spread exposure, as well as shatter any remaining rumors, such as "Latinos don't watch Latino movies," or that "Latinos don't support each other." All anyone has to do is use the hashtag #MovementMondays to show support for Latinos in the industry.
Currently, according to her caption, "There isn't one Latino that can Greenlight movie. That means no studio will put their money behind a Latino face as a lead of a movie because they don't believe we can make their money back."
Her lengthy announcement is very insightful, informative, and worth the read. The Jane the Virgin actress chose Oscar Isaac to be the first of many #MovementMondays subjects. Isaac is Guatemalan-American and recently won a Golden Globe for his performance in Show Me a Hero (and you may have seen him in a little movie called Star Wars: The Force Awakens).
Since it was revealed that about 98% of the internet is in love with him, Isaac could technically double as a #MovementMonday and a #ManCrushMonday.
