According To Instagram, Everyone’s In Singapore Now

A whole lot of people have headed to Singapore for the winter, if Instagram is any indication. Social media celebrities have been tagging a suspicious number of photos with this city. So, was there an amazing deal on a flight over there that we missed? Or are people lying about their whereabouts? As it turns out, some Instagrammers swear by this tactic as a way to gain likes, comments, and followers. While the reason isn't known, several verified users told Mic they were getting more engagement with this geotag. "You keep Singapore up for 12 hours, then you change it," one said. "It's fully ridiculous and dumb, but it works. I'm not sure why or if it's just because it's become a meme, but the 'Singapore, Singapore' posts do way better. It 100% works." So if you're wondering why all your friends have gone to Singapore without you, don't let FOMO get you down — especially if their caption references a city on the opposite side of the world.
