Bill Nye Sheds Lab Coat, Walks In Fashion Show

You might know him as the Science Guy, but he's not just about the periodic table and chemistry — Bill Nye just walked in a fashion show during New York Fashion Week: Men's. The 67-year-old bow tie-loving scientist from your favorite '90s PBS show made his runway debut for Nick Graham, who presented a far-out collection inspired by Mars, space travel, and astronomy. Nye walked out wearing a metallic suit printed with retro rockets and shooting stars, but it wasn't exactly a Blue Steel moment. Instead of choosing the usual stoic stomp, Nye smiled and showboated as he took his turn on the runway. He smiled as he took his walk and pointed to audience members, who greeted him with applause. It may have been a friendly favor, however. Time reports that Graham outfitted Nye for his new Netflix show, Bill Nye Saves the World. (Keep an eye out for fellow model Karlie Kloss, who is set to appear on the show, too.) Graham told Vogue that “[Nye has] had such an amazing and positive impact on millions of people and their understanding of science. The more people know about science, the better off the planet will be.” The fashion mag also asked Nye about his signature bow tie, which is sure to make an appearance on the scientist's new show. He told Vogue that he has a collection of over 500 and that he started wearing them when he was young. "I started in with bow ties as a waiter at the girls’ athletic banquet in 11th grade. I found the bow tie made me looked dressed up," he said. "It also shows respect for those around you. And a bow tie does not slip into the soup or flop into a flask the way a straight tie does so easily." Not to be outdone, Graham had one more spacey star on the runway. 87-year-old Buzz Aldrin, who you may know as the second man to walk on the moon, also modeled for the show.
