It looks like receiving the honor of America's best fast-food chicken nugget wasn't enough to keep Wendy's from pulling the plug. Foodbeast reports that the fast-food chain has removed Spicy Chicken Nuggets from its menu, much to the dismay of hungover college kids everywhere and at least one food writer.
Constantine Spyrou explained that after a road trip, he stopped into a Wendy's to refuel with some spicy chicken goodness. When he got to the restaurant, they weren't available. There was no explanation given at the restaurant. They were simply gone. After some internet sleuthing, he discovered that they were quietly and unceremoniously removed from Wendy's lineup.

When he inquired about his beloved spicy nuggets, Spyrou received this response from the fast-food chain:
"Wendy's Spicy Chicken Nuggets are available in select cities across the country, and the traditional Chicken Nuggets are still available at all Wendy's restaurants. Customers who are fans of Spicy Chicken Nuggets can opt for our Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Wendy's also recently added an Asiago Ranch Chicken Club that can be ordered Grilled, Spicy, or Homestyle."
At six for under $2, Wendy's Spicy Chicken Nuggets aren't just a frugal option, they hit that perfect sweet spot that's not too hot or too bland. While it's nice that Wendy's offered up a few alternatives, they're just not the same. A sandwich is not a box of six nuggets, even if it does have the same secret spice blend.
If you can still snag them at your local Wendy's outpost, consider yourself lucky. While they're still available in select cities, there's no way to find out which spots have them on the menu. In the meantime, fans of spicy heat will have to get their fix elsewhere.
