This is one Kanye West controversy that seems to have been put to rest. The singer announced on Saturday that he planned to use a photo of Dr. Jan Adams as the cover of his upcoming album. Adams was the plastic surgeon who operated on West's mother Donda shortly before she died of complications from that surgery in 2007. West said this would be a gesture of forgiveness towards Adams, but in a letter published by The Blast, Adams says West is placing blame for his mother's death on the wrong person.
"Thank you for thinking of me for the cover of your next album," Adams writes, adding, "Unfortunately, I have to decline at this time, and I ask that you cease and desist using my photo or any image of me to promote your album or any of your work."

While Adams commends West's desire to forgive, he believes that can only be done if West has all the facts. He goes on to cite the letter from the coroner who determined that it was not the surgery, but the neglect Donda West was subjected to afterwards that led to her death. West's cousin, Stephan Scoggins, apparently said he'd be making arrangements for her care following her surgery, but did not. According to the letter, he left the next morning believing Ms. West to be doing better, and did not return or check in on the patient.
"It is unknown whether medical attention could have saved her life; however due to neglect this opportunity was never provided," the letter reads. "I have been asked by my supervisors to express the concern that this office has regarding the care that Ms. West received following her surgery."
Adams goes on to write that Scoggins picture would be more apt to use as West's next album cover, and hopes that having these facts will help him heal. It appears West has readily accepted this news.
"Open letter from Jan Adams," he tweeted. "This is amazing. Thank you so much for this connection brother. I can't wait to sit with you and start healing."

Let's hope West's myriad other controversies come to equally moving and important conclusions.
