What are you up to this weekend? If you merely mumbled something about
watching the Royal Wedding in your pajamas, we think you might want to
reconsider. There’s so much great stuff going down in the city this
weekend, and, to help distill it all, we’ve narrowed the offerings
to these five hot, must-hit going-ons. Buck up, put some clothes
on, and we’ll see you there!
2. Get Crafty: Take a day to rest-up on Friday (and view the Royal Wedding, duh!)
for two fun Saturday events, the first being a bookbinding workshop at
People’s Gallery hosted by one of our fave local websites, Big Things. Kicking off at 2 p.m., visitors will be taught how to bind their own
books and ‘zines with free supplies on hand, while nibbling on goodies
the whole time. Neighboring shops Kadist SF and The Thing Quarterly will also be hosting concurrent art events.
People’s Gallery, 3289 20th Street (at Folsom Street); 415-307-0051.
3. Go Green: While you’re in craft-mode, stop by quirky decor boutique Rare
Device and check out its one-day “Succ-U” pop-up shop, where the
plant-happy duo from Succ-U will be customizing adorable succulent
arrangements from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Rare Device, 1845 Market Street (at Guerrero Street); 415-863-3969.
4. Toast Mom: Still haven’t bought anything for mom? No worries. The Mission’s
Pot & Pantry has you covered. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, the
amazing kitchen wares boutique is hosting a custom tea-blending event
in conjunction with This Humble Abode. After the $10 walk-in workshop,
you’ll head home with a completely personalized tea for mom (or
yourself) and a pretty tea box to boot.
Pot & Pantry, 3412 22nd Street (at Guerrero Street); 415-206-1134.
5. Pretty Up! Ladies should stick around 22nd Street after Pot & Pantry’s event for
near-by shop Mira Mira’s first-ever ladies night, where stylish local
gals are invited to the a-mazing new space to indulge in brow
shape-ups by Pretty Parlor, feather extensions by Featherluxe (for the
funky types, we guess), gratis champagne, and 20% off all purchases
throughout the entire affair.
Mira Mira, 3292 22nd Street (at Valencia Street); 415-648-6513.
