Here's some food for the thought—literally! If you're not familiar with SOMArts monthly potluck series Feast of Words, here's a quick rundown: Foodies, writers, a whole lotta food, and a little writing come together every third Tuesday of the month. Now here's how you can get in on it! Next Tuesday, September 20, the monthly event is celebrating the fact that class is back in session with a "Schoolhouse Rocks"-themed meal. And there'll be a youthful spin on it all thanks to young readers from Dave Eggers' much loved literacy program 826 Valencia reading their work outloud and young chefs from Old Skool Cafe showing off their cooking skills. Guests old and young are asked to bring their favorite childhood dish to share—plus a trusty No. 2 pencil for an after-dinner on-the-spot writing competition.

Where: 934 Brannan Street (between 8th and 9th streets); 415-863-1414.
Cost: $10 in advance, $12 at the door, $5 with a potluck dish; Get your tickets here!
