We tried to fashion-ify the Teva last year, when we began spotting the ungainly sandal on more than a few fashion-minded flatform fans, but we never expected people to actually take them more seriously than trying out the $80 sandal for fun.
But then, Alexander Wang went and made the whole kinda-joke serious, by creating a Teva-inspired Karlie sandal that retails for $395. Coming in blue and black, the velcro-strap sandal is created with patent leather as opposed to that manmade rip-stop fabric you see on regular Tevas, a slightly more pointed toe, and a price tag that really messes with our sense of humor. Is Wang so powerful that he could do what we couldn't (that is, make the Teva cute), or were his efforts in vain? Are these shoes ones that only a fashion-obsessed Dad could love?
