Washington is one of those rare cities that offers just enough urban activities and rural diversions to keep most everyone happy. Think about it: You can catch some world-class music, art, and theater downtown, then find yourself hiking in the Shenandoahs in less than an hour. Hit the ultra-luxe boutiques in Chevy Chase, then wander through a lush vineyard in Virginia.
But our favorite out-of-town activities around this time of year are the county fairs happening all around the DMV. However, actually getting to one of them can be a bummer for those without wheels. Luckily, the Barracks Row nabe is hosting a fall festival tomorrow, and the DC State Fair is part of it.

So, you can catch live music performances, contests for weirdest veggies and best homebrews, and demos on canning and home beekeeping — and all you need to do is hop on the Metro to get there. There's also a classic car exhibition, a petting zoo, trapeze performances...and boozy milkshakes at Ted's Bulletin when you need a break. That should please the city mice and the country mice, right?
