Pastels can sometimes be very, very snoozy. These quaint colors can veer into "too cute" territory pretty quickly — not exactly something those of us who dig bold, in-your-face hues would necessarily go for. But, as the brand tends to, Bite Beauty has completely upped the game and taken pastels out of yawn territory with today's release of its Watercolor Lip Gloss set.
The palette contains 12 sheer shades that range from buttery yellow to deep purple. A raspberry macaron-colored tube would be a clutch swap for your typical red, and a Pepto pink would be a slick addition to any spring lip repertoire. All of the shades offer a hint of color without being overt.
Though the rest of the colors seem totally wearable, the green and the yellow? Not so much. At least, until we tested them out. The green instantly gave our lips a cooler tint. It almost looked as if we'd just stepped out of the cold in the middle of January. It would help bring out the cool undertones of a lipstick if layered on top. The yellow, on the other hand, gave our lips a warmer tint: the perfect no-makeup makeup hue if you're just tooling around town on a Saturday — you can tell there's something there, but it doesn't hit you over the head.
The set retails for $49, which means under $5 a tube (hurray!). Gorgeous shades at a steal of a price? That sounds like the perfect early-spring gift to us.
