Blood, Sweat, and Skirts at Kai Kuhne

Sitting next to Johnny Misheff (Kai boo's and a comely writer for Paper, V, and Interview magazines) we surveyed the crowd which included Olivier Zahm snapping pics, Rufus Wainwright, Genevieve Jones, and other front-rowers enjoying the anticipation that comes with a Kai Kuhne presentation. The 30's, 40's, 80's stylings, artistic machination and austere Germanic-New York eroticism of black, white, grey calf-length dresses with origami-like geometry were spliced and chic as hell. The perfect pants, little black dress, a minute of menswear, and organic abstract wooden jewelry pulled the collection together very nicely and even, dare we say it… red carpet worthy? Backstage Kai and stylist/buddy Aveena Gallagher told us they put their literal and creative blood, sweat. and tears into the collections. It showed. Add to that ambition, a new financial backer and you have something visceral, sweaty, and successful. If you're looking for something safer, check out a reality TV star's collection instead.
