Hayes Valley is about to get a little spicier, thanks to the grand opening of brand-new cajun spot Boxing Room tonight! The new eatery, from the owners behind much beloved neighborhood resto Absinthe, is housed in the former Citizen Cake venue, which used to be a space where shirts were boxed up for the Standard Shirts Factory back in the day (hence, the name). All the fixins on the menu are the brainchild of 26-year-old executive chef Justin Simoneaux, a Louisiana native, and include traditional items like New Orleans-Style Stuffed Artichokes, Cajun Boiled Peanuts, Louisiana Seafood Gumbo, and the ol' Deep Fried Alligator. Also, like a good number of new restaurants in San Francisco, Boxing Room will also cater to the late-night crowd and stay open until 2 a.m. Walk-ins are welcome and dinner service kicks off tonight at 5 p.m. Weekend and weekday lunch service will be added in about a month.
Boxing Room, 399 Grove Street (at Gough Street); 415-430-6590.
