There have been plenty of attempts at creating a meaningful fashion week here in Miami. But with the exception of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, can we really say that anyone has succeeded? We'll leave that for you to discuss in the comments.
However, it looks like newbie show Brickell Fashion Week thinks they're up for the challenge of upping Miami's runway game. According to their Facebook page, they created the event in response to the area's growing population. “Brickell locals felt it was time for Brickell to get its own fashion week and no longer be just an extension from those held on the beach.” Okay, we get it, Brickell. You want your own rodeo. But will you be any different than the rest?

The mastermind behind Brickell Fashion Week is PASA Event Productions, a local company whose “clientele consist of those in the entertainment industry, film industry, and corporate world.” They do seem to have a few fashion clients on their roster, though: a local swim line dubbed Kariza and, um, Frederick’s of Hollywood.
Show dates are still TBA, but there is an announced submission deadline for designers — February 29. Participants can be local or international and need who have at least one season behind them. Call us pessimists, but this all sounds very familiar. And judging by the beret-wearing model gracing the event's site, our worst fears might soon be confirmed.
