This week, we proudly chanted "Chi-le, Chi-le!" along with the loved ones of 33 Chilean miners who had been trapped underground for two months. The miners were rescued one-by-one, and we could not be more grateful for their safe return from the subterranean. In the interim, their friends and families had set up a a nearby makeshift town called Camp Hope. Along with a cafe and a school room, is the establishment of a an improvised beauty salon. The salon has little to do with vanity, and more to do with a deeper human need to bond with others during times of grief, and to continue the attempt to lead a normal day-to-day life. The community effort behind Camp Hope is truly inspirational, and although the ordeal has fortunately come to a close, the poignant strength of the miners and their families should not be forgotten.
