Carine Roitfeld Mingles With “Real People” (& Karl Lagerfeld) For VMAN

Carine Roitfeld, our favorite Frenchwoman-on-the-loose, add another notch to her freelance styling belt with a gig guest-editing VMAN’s spring fashion issue! And ever-experimental Carine is taking the NYC-based publication in a fantastic new direction, filling its pages with “real people,” (a.k.a. local hotties) in place of models.
Obviously, she added a few of her celeb friends into the mix too, but Mme. Roitfeld chiefly pulled chefs, architects, mechanics, and (of course) a fireman along with others, to lend authentic New York flavor to the issue. In explaining her decision, she told WWD, “It’s men [and women] who give personality to the clothes they wear.”

Featuring photographs by Karl Lagerfeld, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, and Nick Knight (who shot Une prophete star Tahar Rahim for the cover) the glossy will be filled with images that the former Vogue Paris editor boasts are “very new for a men’s magazine.”
Roitfeld also styled a pinup calendar for the Valentine’s Day insert. Unfortunately, her stance on “real people” seems to have reversed when it comes to sexy lingerie shoots — the calendar features only supermodels and Victoria’s Secret models. Men may give personality to clothes, but only super-hot models can give personality to a pin-up calendar! Check out the bods when it hits newsstands February 14 (obvs). (WWD)
