If Coco Chanel were to come back to life with a yen for surfing, we're pretty sure she'd want to get into a wetsuit with pro Laird Hamilton. It's not surprising then that the surf legend with the rugged good looks (remember those Amex ads?) was tapped by Chanel to serve as brand ambassador for its J12 Marine, the first diving watch from the brand. To celebrate the partnership, the duo, along with the Surfrider Foundation, hosted a dinner at the Crow's Nest in Montauk to fete Susan Casey's upcoming book, The Wave, with a slew of socials and stars so awesomely eclectic, Warhol would have been jealous. Bruce Weber exchanged hearty guffaws with Richard Gere, Carey Lowell chatted to a dude in a sarong, Angelica Huston chilled with Julian Schnabel, Derek Blasberg held court at a table with Mark Ronson and Josephine de la Baume, and Jimmy Buffet looked as happy as a Parrothead. Though we didn't get a day boarding lesson from Hamilton (Amanda Brooks, Jen Brill, and a particularly sexy Dani Stahl did get some earlier Laird Love), the never-ending glasses of rosé and some late-night fireside s'more making with Eugenia Gonzalez, Peter Davis, and Guest of a Guest's Rachelle Hruska may have been equally punishing, if much less healthy. Besides the double C surfboards, which a couple guests joked about taking home, the real standout was Rachel Weisz, who offered to give us directions back home after we got slightly disoriented. Both remarkably gorgeous and laid-back, the actress proves that class and charm go hand-in-hand, a lesson Chanel clearly hasn't forgotten.
