After viewing Chanel's new "Obsession" video featuring model and Lagerfeld muse, Edie Campbell, we've been happily hitting the replay button all afternoon. Directed by contemporary artist Cyrille de Vignemont, the short ad takes exhausted visual tropes of fashion — multiple mirrors, androgyny, a black-and-white palette — and somehow make them feel all shiny and new again. Moreover, we love an ad that gives us a good think. Angel vs. devil? Bipolar chic? Falling in love with oneself? We'll let you decide.
Thought provoking symbolism aside, we wasted no time becoming undeniably obsessed with the style. For one persona, Campbell sports a hairstyle (faux-hawk meets softly pinned low bun) that has us rethinking the way we've been wearing our bangs, and makes it clear that brooches, waistcoats, and loose-fit trousers are not to be ignored come fall. Her other persona is equally eye-catching in its classic femininity: black sequins, a perfectly pouty, red lip, and a sleek pencil skirt.
