We all missed a good one. Back in June, designer Philippe Starck and his backers invited a large 1,500 celebs and inner-circle favorites (Lou Doillon, Kanye West, Brian Ferry, etc.) to the storied Royal Monceau Hotel for a demolition party for the ages.
A warm up for Starck's coming renovation, the party included art installations, live music from 2manyDJs, and other wonders we won't get into. Mostly, we're interested in what was a rare opportunity to attack the walls and fixtures of one of Paris' great historical hotels with sledgehammers. As the release says, "Time seemed suspended as the night of creative euphoria rolled on, in a world of pleasure and elegance, fervor and passion." Whatever—Smashy, Smashy!
Anyways, we were happy to see the results of all that organized vandalism this weekend in Jean-Baptiste Mondino's beautiful photoshoot for the The New York Times Magazine. It's not the same as crushing plaster yourself, but perhaps it goes better with brunch
