Alice Waters, Fashion, & Floats Represent For This Can’t-Miss Benefit

cg

How many people does it take to throw a fashion show? If you’re
acclaimed art center, Creative Growth, it takes a village of your most
fabulous friends. Next Friday, big names from design (Yves Behar),
food (Alice Waters), fashion (Kim Hastreiter), and art (Sabrina Buell
and Lauren McIntosh) will be hosting a fundraiser to help offset
$75,000 in budget cuts. All proceeds will benefit Creative Growth’s
programs that serve 140 artists with mental disabilities. With a theme like “Beyond Trend,” you can be sure to expect plenty of runway hijinks,
eye-popping textiles all designed in studio, and perhaps even an
intentional wardrobe malfunction or two.

A seasonable selection of
passed foods from Chez Panisse chefs past and present will guarantee
you’ll be completely stuffed, and hopefully you'll be tempted by something phenomenal from the auction. On the block will be Yves Behar’s sold-out SAYL chair and
a one-of-a-kind PUBLIC Bike designed by Donald Mitchell. Oh, and a street
parade (the gallery’s first ever!) with floats designed by guest
artist Kathleen Henderson will kick off the extravaganza at 5 p.m.
Then, get ready for a fashion show (featuring East Bay's adorable Mercy Vintage), performance art, and of course, an after party. Plus, again, it's all for an amazing cause. Meet you front and center?

When: Friday, March 16, 6-9 p.m.

Where: Creative Growth Oakland, 355 24th Street
(between Valdez and Webster Streets); 510-836-2340.

Price: $100 or $250 for VIP champagne reception; Buy tickets here.
