Can we just take a moment to show our appreciation for drugstore lipsticks? They're great quality, available in about a bajillion different shades, and because they're so cheap, we can wear a different one every day. You, drugstore lipstick, make our lip game strong.
But while we're all for fiery oranges and vibrant fuchsias, we expected the top-selling shade at drugstores to be something like nude-pink. (We're talking about the masses here!) Oh, how we underestimated you guys. According to a poll from the Glamour, the most popular lipstick color is...dark berry.
It's true. After polling CVS for its best-selling lipstick shades in major cities, Glamour revealed that while basic red is the go-to for places like Miami and L.A., the true MVP of the list is Revlon's Black Cherry; it won the top spot in five of the nine cities.
The hue might be a bit intimidating at first glance, but trust: It's slated to be the hottest trend for summer. It's cool, unexpected, and it'll make you stand out from your nude- and pink-pouted friends. Dab it on lightly for a sheer stain, or layer it on if you're feeling really bold (we recommend using a lipliner in a similar shade as your base, to avoid bleeding in the summer heat). Head over to Glamour to check out what lippie your city is lusting after, and let us know in the comments — will you be picking up a tube of Black Cherry for the summer? (Glamour)
