We've officially found our first nail obsession of NYFW and it's a gem of a mani: Turquoise tips at Gretchen Jones. The former Project Runway winner debuted her fall '12 collection on Wednesday and it was rife with inspiration from the designer's Southwestern roots, described as a "'90s grunge reinterpretation of classic '40s feminity," with patterns of snakeskin, ikat, and dark florals throughout.
Nail pro Cinnamon Bowser, owner of Nail Taxi, keyed the nail looks backstage, with a little help from beauty brand Nail Rock. "Gretchen told me she wanted turquoise nails — not the color, but the actual stone," said Bowser. "I originally thought to use black shatter polish, [but then thought of wraps]." So Bowser went to Nail Rock founder Zoe Pocock and had her do a custom design. The turnaround time was tight, but Pocock came through with some seriously sick turquoise wraps reminiscent of chunky Southwestern jewelry.
Could these pretty stone wraps follow the path of Nail Rock's custom designs for Meadham Kirchhoff's spring '12 show and make their way to a store near us this fall? We sure hope so, because these semi-precious tips are just the accessory we're looking for to complement our sure-to-be-epic fall wardrobe — we've already started mentally placing our orders. A spokesperson for Nail Rock said that it's "always a possibility." We'll keep our (soon-to-be-semi-precious) fingers crossed.
